Actually, it's a common problem. There are a couple of people on this list,
including myself, who encountered this failure.
I haven't gotten around to fixing this problem (just bought another body)
but I will one of these days.
According to a number of people the problem is a sticking electromagnet wich
is located in the bottom of the camera, jou get to it by removing a cover
plate under the mirror. Look in the archives for a more detailed description
of this problem.
