I've never seen test results side-by-side. I'd expect the lenses to be VERY similar in performance. If given a chance to buy the same condition lens at the same price from either brand, I'd probably buy the Tamron, just because of my good experiences with them. Others may have discrete experience with the ATX.

The up-side with the Tamron MF is that you can use it on multiple bodies of different brands with ease. That keeps the market much more fluid. It usually means that the prices for the Tamrons are a bit lower, as the supply is greater. The Tokina ATX lenses tend to cost more for the same lens in less-common mounts like Olympus or Leica.

If as you say Tamrons are unappreciated, can we say the same of Tokina ATX
series lenses? Is there a clear choice of what is better between Tamron SP
vs Tokina ATX lenses?
