Exactly. That is how the process should go. When the publishers of
Ultimate Mustang aproached me on using an image I made the deal with
them and cashed the check. When the book published I went to Amazon and
was fortunate to get a good price on a so-called "used" copy from an
Amazon Z-shops seller linked off their page showing the book. I *had* to
have a copy of the first book I was published in and had no problem
paying for it (I paid a lot less than they payed me for usage rights
too).
Olaf, that is an incredibly beautiful shot that is 100% worthy of
someone paying you to use it. You should not have to pay someone to
publish it. Walk away. As John put it, scamarino. (Is that a word? I
like it!)
