Thanks to all who gave me suggestions on how to fix my winder battery
holders. I had two about which I was concerned, one heavy corroded and one
that appeared in pretty good shape other than some minor battery leakage.
Here's what worked. I got the oxidation loosened up with DeoxIT which was
not the easiest thing to find nor the cheapest when I did find it. After
letting it loosen up a bit, knocked most of the loose stuff off with a small
jewelers screwdriver. On the most heavily affect one, I had taken the metal
plate and spring parts off and after doing the above treatment, used some
Amway metal polish (which also may not be easy to find but Brasso would
probably work fine also) to finish up the little flat metal piece. After
getting it all back together with a little patience, it worked fine. The one
which was in good shape to begin with still wouldn't work. At this point I
applied Clint's pencil, nail, rubber band & light bulb trick to both of them
and I'm pleased to report both are now working exactly as the were designed
to work. Also used the DeoxIT on the underside of a heavily corroded Black OM
1/2 MD cap and it cleaned up nicely. The MD cap is not for sale, however I
now find myself with three Winder 2s and one Winder 1 which are fully
functional. Might be interested in thinning that flock off list. Thanks to
all, especially Clint for the "reforming" idea and Donald Shedrick for the
DeoxIT suggestion. Bill Barber
