I believe all of the tripod mounts are the same. I haven't tried swapping, but
the 300mm, 400mm, and macro tripod mounts all look
the same to me. Camtech sells them for a little over $20 IRRC. Which also makes
me wonder why someone doesn't buy the KEH lenses
that are discounted for not having the tripod mount.
I haven't used the 400mm that much yet but it seems like it performs fine. It
fits in a Lowepro micro trekker backpack so it's easy
to take with. (probably not at the same time as a 50-250 unless you're not
taking much else <g>).
