really "buy" you anything cause it also reduces the flash exposure by a like
amount, making the working distance even shorter (worse). We need more
flash output so cutting to the 1/2 manual setting makes things worse too.
By my numbers, we need big, handle mount, wedding flash units to do fill
outdoors beyond 8 feet.====
In regard to the filtering you are of course correct. I wasn't thinking
clearly.
As to the flash calculation, I gave a standard equation for
balancing the flash with the ambient light.
In order to get a different ratio you would move the flash further
away from the subject. I think the inverse square rule applies here though.
My initial response was to a basic question assuming that Tina
is intent on using existing equipment. Experimentation is
the best way to find answers to individual needs.
