I have been disappointed with my f280. If you are looking for flat and
bland flash fill, it does a great job. If you are looking to utilize a
broad spectrum of shutter speeds but by being severly restricted in the
flash to subject distances and apertures you will also like this little
flash gun. The guide number output is too low to make it anything but an
amateur product. IMHO, a Vivitar F285 is far better option even though
it only functions properly at the camera's set synchronization speed or
lower. You cannot control the power output with the f280 whereas you can
with the F285 which, IMO, is the most important feature when considering
flash fill. In addition, the f280 has a fixed flash head whereas the
F285 head at least swivels from horizontal to vertical.
Possibly a far more serious criticism is that Olympus set the
synchronization speed of the OM4T at only 1/60 second which is quite
scandelous for such an excellent and sophisticated camera. A sync speed
of at least 1/125 or better still at 1/250 would make the 4T really a
pro flash camera. Mind you, Leica rangefinders also have pathetically
slow sync speeds so at least we are in good company with the other high
end 35mm brand!!
