I use a Cabela?s safari vest -- lots of big pockets, most with velcro closures,
a couple large enough to swallow an OM and lens (if the lens is not of the
telephoto persuasion). I?ve just over 5?10? and it?s not too long for me, and
it's quite comfortable, even when loaded. I?ve had other genuine photo vests
-- you could tell by the logo -- that weren?t nearly as good. Here?s a link:

If you want something shorter, do a search for ?fly fishing vests?. Cabela?s
has several of these, and since they are intended for wear with waders, they
are short enough not to drag in the water when you?re in it up to your waist.
