While the lens cap won't make a difference in battery conservation on the
OM-2S, it *is* the right thing to do for protecting the front element of
the lens. I'm also a believer in lens hoods. In use with lens cap off,
aside from helping with off-axis flare control, the hood helps protect the
front element. I freely admit being "AR" about protecting lenses. To me,
the lens is the most important part of the camera.
