A ban on carry ons, just like the ban on knives, won't make planes a
bit safer, but will increase the inconvenience and freedom of travel,
and may have unintended consequences leading to problems. You can
never eliminate every potential weapon from an airplane or any public
space. What we need are solutions tat actually address the problem.
Sky Marshalls, better screening of passengers, armed pilots, and
secure cockpits all address the actual problem. Taking away steak
knives and camera bags just ensures that the next hijacker will bring
a club or know karate. I'm particularly exasperated at resistance to
the idea of armed pilots. Apparently, some people would rather have
no last line of defense than some last line of defense. Of course,
I'm an SUV driving, gun owning, conventional farming,
want-to-keep-my-own-money businessman, so I'm probably wrong.

In answer to your question, I think we'll all either be buying
pelican cases and the like, or be learning how to live with much
smaller kits than can be carried in the photo vest you wear while you
travel. My 21/50/100 kit is sounding better all the time!
