I would think that you would have to have an electroplating kit to do
this correctly. You would hook the kit up "backwards" to remove the
existing chrome plating; I don't think the paint would stick to the
chrome. I would ask the question at:

and see if this groups has any ideas or experience in this area.

There are numerous other small parts that are chrome, such as the
self-timer lever, rewind knob, etc. These would probably be difficult
to paint. I think that some of these "chrome" parts would melt or
decompose, so be careful!
I have a black baseplate from a beater OM-1, which includes the motor
