Sorry, I didn't answer your last question, Titoy. Quick Release plates are
just that: a plate that affixes to whatever head you have (ball, pan/tilt, or
no head at all, in the case of my monopod), and simply provide a quick and
convenient way to mount and unmount your camera from the tripod, monopod,
window mount, whatever. A small plate easily screws into the 1/4-20 hole in
the bottom of your camera body and stays with it. Then you just lever it on
and off the QR base plate on your tripod/whatever, which saves time, hassle,
and MUCH wear and tear to the bottom of the camera.
There are aluminum ones, titanium ones, made by other makers. All sizes and
price ranges. I don't know about the Phil., but around here, Bogen/Manfrotto
is widely available, which means when I get infected, er, inspired, I can
drop in most any camera shop and find parts, accessories.
