Went to the dentist early this morning (both of them are VERY angry, and were
very quiet -- I think that about sums up how most Americans feel at the
moment). Terrorists, bend over and kiss your a** goodbye. After a day of
prayer tomorrow, we're coming. Texans and Yankees, Democrats & Republicans,
Christians and "other". We're coming.
An excuse to drop off and pick up film, slides, prints. Fuji Provia 100F/36
at Pro Lab is $6.47 a roll. Is that decent? I'm sure B&H, mailers are
cheaper, yes? 10 rolls and cold beer in the refer.
I looked at my Provia 100F slides, most underexposed, as I shot them all at
ASA 200 ("I'm an idiot", remember), but I managed to somehow "screw up" (I'm
STILL an Idiot) and get some BEAUTS! I asked about reprints. $3.50 apiece
for 4 X 6. Ouch! Have to shop around some before I go for that. Will try
Pacific Color up north of Greenlake (that's 2 places now recommended by
ProLab folks). Geez, that's a fer piece. And will try the lab close by in
Burien. Somebody at Prolab said he's pretty good. If his prices are right,
he may be my lab. Comforting to have several choices of labs.
At Glazer's, grabbed an armload of brochures on tripods and picked a young
sales clerk's brain for awhile. He was good help. I've got a Bogen 3218
black monopod coming (Mt. Rainier, here I come again!), and got advice about
a head sufficient for the 300/4.5 and eventual Bogen tripod, too. Being an
outdoor/hiker/wildlife type, thought I wanted a 3221 Wilderness tripod, but
it doesn't go down low like the 3021, so I'll probably get a 3021 and save
some weight and bucks in the process. I can add black neoprene foam to the
legs of the 3021 with some good Boeing adhesive, or would Pliobond be a good
candidate for this?
Finally caught Jim's Used Cameras in the U. District open (he comes and goes
when he feels like it -- don't believe the hours posted on the door... must
be nice). He has many lenses, Zuiko and otherwise, brochures (most $5 to
$18!!), a plastic tub full of flash shoes (FS 4, $39! Too much! I can get it
new in box for $29.95 at Kenmore Camera), winders, MD1 (kinda rough, ugly
leatherette & contacts, $169), Autoconnector 3, 4, a black battery/MD cover
for OM-2S, etc.. A few OM10s, a black user OM2n ($165, I think), OMPC
($129?). Nothing got me excited, and he seems a little high on prices. I
suppose he will entertain offers so may be flexible on prices. I'll snoop in
again when I go back to the dentist (oh, yippee) in Nov.

Sorry I can't give more specifics on lenses, etc. I'm still in NYC in
spirit. Just can't muster a lot of OM energy yet.
As I came home, saw a Fed Ex plane taking off from SeaTac. That put a lump
in my throat. Then as I came to Hwy 99, there were about six men, women, and
kids on the corner, waving the flag in different sizes. That got me, too.
Then just after I got home, heard a "heavy" on final approach. I usually
hate all that noise (if they were Merlins & Griffins, they could fly 24/7 and
I wouldn't complain). Today, it brings tears. Almost too much emotion to
deal with.
As Christophe says, "Happy shoots!"
