You're correct, and I should have been a bit more precise. The shutter lag
is indeed quite short; it's just the AF time that's noticeable if the camera
has to go a ways. If you have the focus locked by holding the shutter
release down halfway, it'll indeed fire quickly.
One other thing caught my attention: the manual focus ring changes the
camera's focus slowly in MF mode. Focusing was easy on the ground glass, but
it can take a lot of cranking.
