I had a little time on my hands last evening, so I played a bit with the
lens coating data as originally compiled by Paul Schings. The results (two
charts) I've added to my "Lens Coating" introductory page, here:
http://petroglyph.crestline.ca.us/Olympus/lenscoat.htm
One chart shows how many of each lens 'size' (focal length/aperture
combination) are owned by list members who responded to the lens coating
survey. A sort of 'lens popularity chart'.
The other chart is a total 'scientific wild-assed guess' of the production
volumes of a given lens type, based on a simple subtraction of the lowest
serial number range reported for each type from the highest range reported
for each type. This is by NO means an accurate production volume report, but
the relative magnitudes of POSSIBLE lens serial numbers should at least
provide a hazy means of estimating production (within LOTS of pretty obvious
constraints, especially "popularity" of a given type among list members).
'Twas done mostly for fun.
