How many Sherpas did you have to hire to carry your gear?

Off to the Davis Mountains tomorrow morning - hiking, birding, shooting,
mostly on Mount Livermore. Lightweight kit: a small Tamrac hip bag with an
OM-4T, a couple of 49 mm filters, a 24/2.8, 50/3.5, and a 75-150/4. To that I add an ancient Kelty daypack with a light Sigma 400/5.6, a smallish tripod
with the lightest Bogen ball head I can find, water, and lunch.. Not bad,
reasonable load to tote, covers a pretty good range, keeps me hydrated, etc.

Unfortunately, I can't bring myself to stop there - I'll also take a
second, "heavy" hiking kit: Photoflex, medium GR bag for the -4T, with a
spare OM-2N, winder 1, 16, 21, (24), (50/3.5), 180/2.8, T-32 with zoom
adapter (might find an owl at night. . .), some 72 mm filters (8, 15, 25A,
c-pol). And back in the truck: Tamron 400/4 and the gawdawful heavy Bogen
tripod for it, OM-1N with cable release (star trails at McDonald
Observatory?), 200/5 (maybe I'll swap it for the 75-150 in kit 1), 7 mm
extension tube so I can use the 1.4X-A on the 400/5.6, changing bag in case
I want to shoot HIE, and oh,yeah, the Sigma 600/8 mirror that I've never
shot. Diaper bag with Provia 100F and T400CN (no color negs), HIE, spare
AAs, 1.4X-A, etc.

But I did leave some at home: 28, 35, several 50s, the 85, both 100s, the
300/4.5, the enormous Sigma 70-200/2.8.

Still, it's clear that I own too much stuff (Naaaah!).

See y'all next week.

Gary
