I only have experiences with the Winder 2, but I assume it is almost the same
design apart from the extra sequential mode.
The MD1 is less noisy, since it finishes winding the film in about half the
time. And for me it seems that the drive chain of the MD1 is better sound
insulated. That is nothing more than my personal perception. One could argue
that for winding the film with approximately the double speed, motor noise must
be higher, but I did not find this is the case.
We definitely need motor and winder noises available as sound files on the www,
in the same way someone has done so with mirror and exposure release sonds for
various OM bodies. I don't have the proper equipment, but anybody else? This
could be added to the FAQ.
The weight of the MD1 alone is less than a Winder - check the ESIF for actual
weight information. But add some weight for the 18 Volt battery pack / NiCd
pack. If used with the relay cord (power unit in your pocket), the MD1 is
something like 100g less heavy than the Winder 2, not considering the power
pack in your bag.
I have now bought a relay cord for the MD that performs better than the one I
got with the MD1 and 18V grip. But I still want to swap the 18V grip with a
NiCd unit. That combo will weigh slightly more than the Winder 2, but be faster
and more quiet. And it will solve my problem with the 18V pack and the relay
cord, which I think will end up tangled in a concert situation.
Best regards
Bernd
