Charles,
The astrofocuser is an excellent way to focus using long
focal lengths (telescopes). It is useful for focusing on starlike pinpoints.
I don't have any experience using one however. You can, however, make
a knife edge focuser using a some tape, a plastic cd case, and a piece of
unexposed film.
It is simple and cheap to do. And the most accurate way to focus a telescope.
If you are interested in making one, I will dig up a link I came across which
shows you how to do it. It's really quite simple.
