<< Did the 35 SII 1.8 have a built-in meter? >>
1.
Vison Age magazine 4:
The 35 SII 1.8 was launched in November 1957.
It had a light value exposure calculator on the top.
It had the 4.2cm f/1.8 G.Zuiko lens.
I can't see a reference to an exposure meter, only an exposure value
calculator dial.
The Olympus Auto, 1958, had an electric, exposure coupled multi-filter type
light meter, coupling range 6-17 EV with 100 ISO (ASA) film, 4-8 EV with
booster. It says you could choose either shutter speed or aperture in Auto, a
sort of Programmed AE.
2.
Vison Age magazine 3:
This says the 1st Japanese camera with built-in exposure meter was the
Olympus Wide E in 1957!
Looks like a selenium-type thing like the Zenit E, EM?
"Independent" - therefore not coupled...?
Olympus Auto Eye in 1960:
It had AE. Shutter-Priority Auto Exposure. And therefore a coupled exposure
meter!
4.
Book Photofascination (Germany):
It says that exposure meters made by Weston, GE and Norwood were widely used
in Japan after World War 2.
Kind regards,
Dave Bellamy.
