This is a set of short observations on Dave's suggestions - so as to
save space. I am assuming that Dave is serious.
I am sorry Dave, but I disagree with the plan to have a moderator,
whoever that may be.

Since it is public now, I think we should discuss the possibility of a
moderator openly. I also think that now that the list is closed lets keep it
closed. No more discussion of opening it again. If anything we should talk
about further security measures.
Here are my suggestions:
1. Now that we have control of subscriptions I think I might say that I think
off topic posts should be completely eliminated. I know this won't be popular
but it's the only way that we can totally bang any flames on the head
immediately.
I disagree, but who would decide?
2. I also think this should mean that an individual should be able to be
forcefully unsubscribed if they breach this rule 3 times in a week.
The line would have to be drawn somewhere, but the spirit of the List
(the generous one, not the mean one that comes out every now and
then) is a wonderful one... especially now that AOL6 has been "tamed"
;-).
I also disagree with the idea of a "Trinity", OM or not, the idea
that there is an "elite" or the idea that you continue as a
subscriber under threat of forceful proscription if you mention
something that is OT more than 3 times. It reminds me of Brave New
World (Doublethink) and I would resist a change in that direction.
If we're not careful, soon we'll have to have a separate list to
discuss the business of the List. This is because the business of
the List Olympus photographic equipment, and discussion of the
business is not... (partly humorous observation)
On the other hand, I am entirely happy with the fact that it is now a
closed list... I had always thought that it was anyway ;-).
