I guess you're referring to the shots on my homepage, from the signature
link. I'm glad you liked them.
Yes, I do use tripod a lot whenever I go on a trip with the intention of
taking pictures. When the purpose of the trip is something else, or if I
travel with a larger group of friends (my closest ones learned to be patient
about my photographic activities) I limit myself to handheld and a much
smaller OM kit (one body+zoom or 50/1.8).
As you probably noticed I shoot lots of slides, and I like Velvia a lot
for
outdoor pictures. Combine that with slower lenses (can't afford those
beautiful fast Zuikos) and heavy use of polariser, and tripod quickly becomes
a necessity. But when travelling light I find that one body and a 50/1.8
handheld with no other gadgets is a wonderfuly refreshing alternative.
Apart from stablizing my gear tripod serves another important role - it
slows me down. When I shoot with tripod I tend to think more about where to
set up and shoot, look carefully at each location before setting up etc. Also
with camera on tripod I tend to look in the viewfinder longer, frame slower
etc. And this is a good thing, unless you shoot something that moves fast of
course, but for landscapes it's great.
Glad to be talking photography again!
