Interesting. I had never heard of oats being fed to hogs. I live near too
much cheap corn I guess. My grandfather did die at the age of 99 from eating
oatmeal for breakfast. Slow poison.

Reminds me of an entry in Dr Johnson's dictionary (the first one of
English, I think) -
'OATS - a grain commonly fed to horses but much beloved by Scots.'
He was no fan of Scotland.

You've rendered it a little more PC. I think it goes something more like
this: "Oats - a grain Englishmen feed their horses and Scots eat for
breakfast."

Then there was the dietary experient that fed one group of rats on Corn
Flakes and another group on Corn Flake packets. The rodents on the
cardboard diet are reputed to have done a little better.
Don't know if it had any effect on their sexual habits, but.

I went to a family reunion today at the ancestral farm where my retired
uncle keeps ostriches for fun (and very little profit from selling their
fertilized eggs). Yup, the feed includes good old Iowa Gold.
Since it's not too far off the way, we stopped at the nature/prairie
preserve Ken posted on a few weeks ago. The best part of the trip was the
drive home in magic light. The fields are just gorgeous right now.
