How about every 6 weeks? That's how long my 1st set lasted! No joke! Used
T-32, and T-10 ringflash quite a few times. Used the OM-2S quite a lot, but
went to the camera one day and they were dead, dead, dead.
I saw an OM-2000 today. OK, very light, manual only with spot and average
metering; selection lever on left hand side around rewind lever. Also a
multiple exposure lever around the wind-on lever (why not on the other
OMs?!?!?!?!).
Very simple "+ 0 - ." LED display. 0 for correct exposure, etc., the dot
lights up when spot metering - that is slightly confusing - it's a bit too
near the + 0 - display. But after 10 seconds I had it worked out, even in my
dark mood today.
Mechanical shutter isn't it? Over full range I think. Unlike OM-2S. Puts it
in the OM-1(N) / OM-3(Ti) mould a bit more. Doesn't take many OM things
except lenses - there is own S-20? flash unit (manual / normal auto? I don't
know).
Sure, OK, it felt like an empty egg-shell next to my OM-4Ti, but it felt
better when I got that 35-70 S.Zuiko lens off it!
Might be nice as an extra lens carrier. I don't know about repairability. If
you haven't got a spot metering or manual camera you can save on the cost of
an OM-3Ti. But it costs nearly the same an an OM-2S here in the UK.
Honestly, I loved my OM-2S when I bought it, but keep worrying about
batteries and it really annoys me. I'm now back on the OM-4Ti and might take
the 2S if it was a really rough place where I might lose or break the camera!
Otherwise I would take an OM-1N or OM-2N (thanks Tom) as spare depending on
my mood.
Personally again, I got an OM-1N for 50 quid and it is just a lovely little
thing - a classic feel, look, sound, feels reliable. Loads of spares, there
must be - 2 million units sold! My Physics teacher in 1983 had an OM-1(N) and
would never consider changing it - he probably still uses it! (and the XA on
his belt).
Jessops UK prices:
Mint OM-2000 159 pounds
- with horribly plasticky feeling 35-70? S.Zuiko lens.
Mint OM-2SP body 160 pounds
- mine was 110 ('fair-ish' conditon) and still nice enough.
Mint OM-2N body 140 pounds.
Mint OM-1N body 120 pounds.
Mint OM-3 body 230 pounds.
New OM-3Ti 1469 pounds.
I don't work for them - I asked for quotes recently - "ball-park" figures,
but quite accurate I think.
