Pockets! The 5 kilo limit is, I think, for what you can put in the overhead
bins, not what you don't check into the hold. (if it was that, then I'd be
pushing for extra carryon allowance because I don't weigh much myself..)
Just wear something with large pockets and fill those with all the extra
stuff. Sure, you'll have a pretty heavy jacket going through the metal
detector x-ray machine, but the x-rays there are a lot gentler than the ones
they use for hold luggage, and the people checking for guns/etc in your
pockets don't care if your jacket is too heavy..
