Tom, lets not make assumptions. My ICQ number is 246246 for example and I
obtained that back in 1995. The most currently issued numbers are in the
90 millions so I think I've been on the internet longer than most have even
heard the word.
Also since grammar has been a hot topic on the list lately.... it should
have been "too" not "two".
Etiquette on this list, and honestly all lists and newsgroups, is to not
post in HTML. The digests cannot handle it and actually put all of the raw
HTML into the digest.
I'm aware of that. I received two private mailings from said Les Clark for
an HTML post when I was using Outlook Express. I've since gone to using
Eudora for the list.
So, anyone posting in HTML will be politely requested to not do so. Not sure
why you picked on Les, as I believe it was John Hermanson who originally
requested that the postings in HTML (specifically the red text on a blue
background be discontinued).
I posted before I saw John's admonition. I assumed Les was the one who
mailed people personally about this. I speak from experience and I think
that's what we all rely on when we comment here. I pointed out that Les was
posting people's email addresses in his replies and asked him to stop that.
Even though his mailings are filtered before I read them unfortunately I do
get snippets of his posts in others replies. I just noticed that he was
continuing to post people's addresses and I was merely indirectly pointing
that out.
Oben, you can be a valuable member of this list. I have enjoyed your posts
since you have been here and you have a unique opportunity to purchase and
share your experiences with equipment that most on the list, including
myself, will never see.
Thanks Tom, nice to hear such gracious words from you. I think the recent
email maelstrom on the list was a storm in a teacup and things have
certainly settled down. I think that your mailing was probably best
directed to me privately to save the list the trouble of reading this.
I ask you to please go back to the 'basics' and focus on the photography and
OM. Your recent posts, including those directed at me, have been somewhat
mean spirited snipes and are not adding to the list, nor reflecting well on
you.
I respect your longer term status on the list and the role you play for
people here and thank you for your comments. Its true that I have singled
out Les' habit of posting email addresses on the list in his replies. I'm
sure someone can educate him on how to correct this in his posts. I think
that it constitutes a far worse crime in terms of its spam generating
nature than posting the occasional accidental HTML.
