In film-based tests, you are looking at more than just lens
performance. You are looking at rangefinder accuracy, too. To
recalibrate a Leica rangefinder requires the whole thing be exchanged
for a rebuilt one. Only the factory works on them.
Of course, the Popular Photography test wasn't film-based.
