Sorry for this on-topic mail ;)
- I've just aquired a fairly nice priced (hfl.650) Zuiko 18mm/F3.5 that has
some damage on the front element. I emailed Olympus Netherlands, and much to
my surprise they replied that they had this front element in stock, for
f.100, so I ordered one.
Now that I received the Zuiko I'm wondering if replacing the front element
is a DIY job. The construction is so much different from any other lens that
I'm clueless what part must be taken off, and how, and if it can be done
without specialized tools.
The enscription with Zuiko and the serial number, for instance, is printed
sideways on a ring. Must this ring be taken off? Just like unscrewing a
filter? Or is it the small ring that directly touches the edge of the front
element? Or the deeper part next to this ring that has incisions for a
spanner wrench? I know that normally rubber stops are recommended but I
don't see how these can be used with the protruding front element...
