Hmmm, that might be a good idea for my scanner, although the DMax
does not often bother me.

That's been one of my approaches to landscapes & other shots where I've
got time to think about exposure, except that, historically, I've tended
to allow more latitude for the highlights, probably to my cost. I blame
the relatively low dmax on my LS20 (film scanner).
