The Zoomatar 180mm f1.3 is the fastest photographic tele I'm aware of -

and unlike Mr Gandy, I have seen one in the flesh. It is hard to comprehend
the size of the thing from the pix but the front element is enormous -
almost a foot wide. The camera becomes a small attachment on the back.
There were bigger Zoomars but I think they were mirror lenses and longer
focal length with impressive light catching ability.
