I tend to think of e*ay as the 'market value' of an item (aggregating a
number of auctions of the same thing to even out condition and
event-specific variables) since there are many items, many bidders, wide
exposure, etc. The average bid price (with a substantial number of bids to
even things out) will be a fair representation of what the worldwide
'market' for that item is...
Not having seen any 350/2.8 lenses in stores I don't know what the retail
prices are for new and used examples. This bid seems like a lot to me for a
specialized lens (I guessed about $1000 lower), although IIRC the 'list'
price for the lens new is ~$5000 (?), I don't know what the 'street' price
is for a new or used one from a major photo equipment retailer... anyone
have this info?
