I just had to throw in a late note on this thread about impact damage. My
first camera was an OM-10. When I was in veterinary school, I dropped the
camera with attached 50/1.8 lens onto the concrete floor of a milking barn
from a height of about 4 feet (normal carrying height). It landed on the
prism housing, causing a gouge in the plastic on one corner, but sustained no
other damage, that I could tell. I continued to use it for several more years
until I bought OM-2S and OM-3 bodies, then handed it down to a younger friend
who wanted to start in photography. Though I've now got an extensive
collection of OM bodies, I wish I had that one back, for the memories!
