Dear Tom and friends,
After playing about with my 16/3.5 fisheye today, I suddenly noticed after
several hours a gleaming silver circle just in front of the aperture ring.
Looking at Tom's 16/3.5 on his Zuikoholic website, I can't tell whether the
'silvernose' 16mm fisheyes have the silver nose right at the front end on the
front of the filter selector ring, or just behind the filter selector and in
front of the aperture ring.
If it's the latter as I suspect, then I have a silvernose 16/3.5! :O) <-
[highlight the smiley for a monochrome demonstration of a silver nose]
I suspect that the silver nose on the silvernose 16mm f/3.5s would be set
back a little bit, otherwise it could have easily caused flare with unwanted
light reflections going straight into the front element!
The front lens cap, which is self-detachable, with a gravitationally-assisted
floating lens cap mechanism, has the name OLYMPUS in very, well, sort of
'old' looking writing. It has a different typeface from the normal Olympus
logo on lenscaps. So possibly it is an old lens, maybe the oldest I have. The
lens cap also has several chips or 'dings' in its edge where it has been
dropped, hopfully without the lens attached!
However, there is no sign of champagne bubbles bursting all over the front
element, not yet.
Dave Bellamy.
