Things you could try if the rubber band solution fails:
1. Take part of the inner rubber ball inside the leather of an old
football, or a dentists piece of cofferdam rubber - large enough to
cover the filter. Might give you enough grip.
2. Go to the ironmonger or another shop doing kitchen utensils and buy
a jar opener for the disabled. I have used one, with succes, made of a
steel band which you could loosen and pull tight to fit to the right
size of jar cover. Gives a lot of grip, despite the steel surface.
Well, maybe this isn't surprising since only little force is needed:
what you need is an even distribution of that small friction force
over the complete perimeter of the filter.
3. Go to a shop specialized in stuff for the disabled and buy a jar
opener made of increased friction silicone material. My 7-year old
niece (not disabled but impatient)) uses these to simulate breasts -
just to give you an idea what they look like ;-) . These things give a
firm grip, without any risk to scratch your filter.
Hope this helps.
