I'm getting into this topic late, it seems, so I don't know what's gone
before. For those of you on the Eastern seaboard who love to photograph
trees, as I do, there's a colossal Yellow Poplar on the grounds of
Montpelier, James Madison's home (also Randolph Scott's!!!). It's just
north of Charlottesville, VA. I don't know how tall the tree is, but it's
the tallest one I've ever seen. I can't remember my widest lens at the time
I was there, but I think it was a 28. I had to go all the way across the
enormous back yard to get the entire thing in a vertical composition with no
keystoning. (Got lots of the yard, too--not a great composition, but I had
had to have a picture of that tree.) Madison loved trees; the Montpelier
grounds contain beautiful specimens of many varieties, some quite exotic.
