I just want an OM-5!
A few years ago I saw a story about a drop-in CCD device for use with an
ordinary 35mm camera. They had a website with photos of a prototype (or
mockup). Looked like a film canister with a square tab that extended out
into the film-plane. Supposedly, you would drop the thing into your camera
and it would sit until it detected a change in light, then it would record
an image onto the flash memory and wait for the next. Once you were done,
just remove it and drop it into a docking-station to download to your
computer. Don't remember if it had full frame coverage or not.
OF COURSE I lost the address and never did hear anything more about it.
People in the computer industry know what vaporware is, and I am guessing
that this product died before it ever got started. I am still wishing for
the day that someone will make an interchangeable camera back / CCD unit.
That would be great! I could shoot film or digital. Well, guess I'll put
that up on the shelf with my trusty OM-5.
