It seems that there are regions where you have to be careful, though. I had
my tank bag (with electric shaver, passport, drivers licence, some other
documents, an OM-2n, several lenses, flash, tripod, an XA, a few other
accessories and several rolls of exposed film, not to forget my B&B guide
and the hip flask full of Scotch) stolen at a gas station in Largs (not too
far from Glasgow
I was once hitch-hiking through parts of England, heading for Scotland, and
was picked up by a truck (lorry) driver. Conversation was difficult because
of the noise and our mutually exclusive colorful English dialects, which
went something like this:
[Lorry driver, shouting:] Wha mumpht dig wif bit dimple?
[Joel]: Say again? What?
[LD:] How far have you come today?
[Joel, shouting:] Whigh plifnough gib em biftoast.
[LD:] How? Say again?
Anyway, he told me that there were only two places he didn't like driving:
"London, because I don't like it, and Glasgow, because I don't want to get
cut up."
He said it, I didn't.
