The list http://www.zuikoholic.com/lenscoatings.txt says the serial numbers
for 21mm f/3.5 lenses are as follows:
21 3.5 116100 Black SC G. Zuiko
21 3.5 116400 Black MC Zuiko MC
21 3.5 116600 Black MC green, pink
21 3.5 118000 Black MC Zuiko MC Auto-W green
21 3.5 119500 Black SC Zuiko
21 3.5 121200 pale green, purple
21 3.5 121400 Black MC Zuiko
21 3.5 121800 Black MC Zuiko
21 3.5 122100 Black Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-W
21mm/3.5 1221xx
Why do these alternate between SCs and MCs?
I have been sent a picture of a lens for sale without the 'MC' label
(the guy thinks it is not multicoated because of this, I guess):
Serial Number 118444
It says:
Olympus OM-System Zuiko Auto-W 21mm 1:3.5 118444 Japan
Now is it MULTI-COATED I wonder ?!?!?!?!
Really what we need to do is to chop up the lens and put it under the
electron microscope, count the coating layers, and also do an
energy-dispersive x-ray analysis to get a composition! I got some great
shots of multi-layered dichroic coatings on lamp reflectors while working
at Thorn Lighting about 10 years ago.
I'll just get the guy to post the lens to me tomorrow if he will, and tell him
I need to look at it more closely...
