i believe it goes thusly:
grey: reduced intensity, most neutral colour rendition w/ no color shift/cast.
similar to ND filter
amber/brown: increased contrast, generally used for driving. also available in
photochromic (like Chris; i've tried my Dad's Lacoste's from like 15
yrs ago, and man are they NICE)
all other colours: specialty use (golf, shooting, etc)
