Hi Dave,
Welcome to the OM faimily. Both the OM-1 and OM-3 have mechanical shutters
and they only need battery for the meter. when I said the OM-1 is more
repairable, I meant that it has a far less complicated meter. The OM-3 has
a GREAT meter which, I believe, will be more expensive and difficult to
repair in say four or five years' time. I sold one of my two OM-3 (to a lady
list member through that auction site whose first name or surname starts
with "s", btw, s, how do you like the OM-3) not because I didn't like it. I
sold it because I had too many OM stuff (I still have four OM-1, two in
black and 2 in chrome, 2 black OM-2, 1 OM-3 ...). If you are choosing
between OM-1 and OM-3, try both and ask yourself whether you want the
multi-spot meter. For me, I can live without the OM-3 meter but can't
forget the beauty of OM-1. Happy shooting.
Regards,
Kam
