Everest has two main approach routes and the Mallory people are coming in from the less crowded Tibetan side. I was on the Nepalese side a year ago. It is as beautiful and as spectacular a place as one can imagine. With all the sun and with the radiation it is hard for me to imagine the film not being fried but maybe it was buried and protected.
