Ansel Adams covered tripods in a section of his book "The Camera" and on p. 131 relates how a heavier tripod may not be your solution to stability: (After writing about weighting as others have already suggested, he said:) "...If such resonances are persistent, try the tripod with a different camera, or replace it. I have had many annoying experiences of this kind, including one 19-pound tripod of great strength that nevertheless vibrated when used with a small 2 1/4 x 2 1/4 camera." It seems that I recall some other camera writer saying too light of a camera on too heavy a tripod causes vibration. One of the old tricks with tripods to help dampen vibration of this type and stabilize them is hanging a _modest_ weight (a couple pounds or a kilo) from the bottom of the center post or bottom of the head. -- John < This message was delivered via the Olympus Mailing List > < For questions, mailto:owner-olympus@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx > < Web Page: http://Zuiko.sls.bc.ca/swright/olympuslist.html > |
