Chris:
As a fellow Edmontonian, I feel your pain. But in general I've had really good
experiences with eBay, and excellent experiences with people on this list.
Places for bodies in Edmonton: McBain's (the 107th Ave. & 109th St. "flagship"
location: talk to Bob Edwards, a salesman there for the last 20 years, who's
pretty knowledgeable about the OM System, even if he did get out of it a decade
ago), Oshry Camera Exchange (generally overpriced, but they sometimes get some
unusual stuff in), and Chris O'Neill's "secret" location (which is probably
Classic Camera Exchange on 118th Avenue, but if Chris doesn't tell us which
store he's referring to, I suggest all the Edmonton-based Olyites get together
and beat it out of him with a low-quality knockoff telephoto lens... ;-) ).
Calgary's also got a couple of stores with used sections that have pretty good
stuff depending on the phase of the moon. Vistek Calgary (used to be called
Camtech) had a good used section last time I dropped by. They're also in
Toronto -- their Web page is:
http://www.vistek.ca/index.html
I don't know how updated their Used section on their Web page is -- best to
phone 'em and ask. Their Calgary phone numbers are at the bottom of their home
page.
A good price to buy/sell an OM-1n, as Tom Scales indicated, is about $175.00
U.S. (give or take $25.00 or so). I lucked out on a flawless, late production
example two years ago when I bought it as part of a larger purchase. I've
since sold the other stuff, and kept the OM-1n. Ultimately I only paid $75.00
U.S. for it, but you have to go for larger purchases to get deals like this,
and then cross your fingers re-selling the other stuff. (At least, that's how
Tom seems to do it!) eBay's good for that, too. Other places I've had luck
with are B&H Photo in New York and KEH. Both have Websites.
Good luck.
Garth
