When I was young and STRONG, I used to hike into high lakes with whole
potatoes, carrots, onions, a can of beans, etc.. Back in the 30's, my Dad
and his pals would carry a CASE of beer in, stick it in the snow, fish, have
a couple beers, and RUN out, maybe 8 miles!
I wouldn't dream of anything but freeze dried foods now for any length of
overnight hike, aside from a candy bar or two. Ultralight everything for me
now, thank you. The 10 essentials (compass, map, knife, etc.), extra
clothing & food, and little darned else. Ultralight fishing rod & reels (one
fly, one spin). EVERY ounce matters.
I'm with Chris and all others who say you are overloaded. I personally would
take only one OM body, and a couple lenses and the 2X and flash, at most.
And a P & S backup. One thing to have the gear in a dry bag while paddling.
Another thing entirely to have to portage all that gear, again and again. I
know that area is relatively flat in comparison to the Northwest, but
still....
Try "portaging" all that gear around the neighborhood for awhile. That will
give you an idea. And entertain heck out of the neighbors. Oh, and not down
the sidewalk. But through the parks, undeveloped lots, etc., where there is
brush, no trails, etc.. During a rainstorm. Not trying to be a
party-pooper, or anything. Just a reflection of "experience".
