Even someone with perfect eyes would have trouble, since their eyes
would use their own focusing mechanism to focus an image from the lens,
so it wouldn't necessarily be focused at the film plane. Try focusing a
standard lens using a clear-field screen without using the focus aids
and you'll see what I mean.
