Wayne,
I rehabilitated my Winder 2 (yesterday!) after thinking it dead by cleaning
the battery contacts. I used a screwdriver to simply scratch the springs at
the end and also pull them out a little ie. increase the tension between the
batteries when loaded. This was after confirming the winder worked by
running it off a dc transformer.
I'll tell you what though, after using a MD 2 the Winder 2 seems anaemic by
comparison.
