Except Royal Bank, apparently. It started with them (rightfully) balking
at cashing the USPS money orders that explicitly stated "Negotiable only in
the United States and its possessions." For awhile, they balked, but
cashed those anyway after much snorting and snarking.
Now, though, they even raise hell cashing the USPS International Money
orders! The tellers hum and haw, have to go see their supervisor, try and
tell me they have to put a hold on the funds in my account, have to go see
their supervisor again when I tell them that's crap, etc., etc.
I asked them if it would help if I opened a US Funds Account (for which, of
course, they would charge me various services charges), and was told,
"Nope!" I asked if a bank draft from one of the large US Banks (Bank of
America for instance) would help and was told, "Nope!" In short, if it's
from the US it's apparently not worth the paper it's written on, and that
applies to money orders (USPS and otherwise), bank drafts, certified
cheques, whatever.
Just my experience with RBC. YMMV of course.
Regards,
Chris
