Hi,
Sounds like an efficient way to case someone's Olympus collection before
going to the effort of breaking in and carting it off....
Hehehe, they'd have to either travel a long way then, or they'd need to work
internationally ;)
I would ask for a return telephone number and address to call them back and
check on their legitimacy.
I did check their website which seems rather professionally done.
Furthermore, I decided that I certainly could use a $50 break, so I decided
to follow-up on it (I asked to do so by e-mail, so as not to have the hassle
of synchronising a phonecall with the rest of my daily scheme), and this is
the list of questios they mailed me:
***************
Per your request, I have submitted some question that we would love your
opinion on. As you will see there are some questions within questions-
please answer as many as you can. Thank you again for participating in our
study, and when you submit your answers please include your address so that
we can mail you $50 as soon as possible. Thanks again for your help! We
are looking forward to you input.
* Tell us a bit about your interest in Photography? When did it
become more than a hobby? What role does it play in your life?
* How many brands of cameras have you used over time? (please list them)
What were some of the pros/cons of each brand you have used?
* How would you describe the relationship you have with the camera you own
now? Can emotions be associated with a camera? or are emotions just for the
output/pictures?
* Why has Olympus become your camera of choice, so much so that you have
spent time developing this website? Is there something special about: the
company, the products themselves, the output?
* How long have you been involved with the website? what made you want to
do it?
* Would you consider yourself a loyalist in other aspects of life, meaning
do you have strong connections with other brands? If so, what are those
brands? Is it hard to be loyal to brands today?
* Knowing that you feel so strongly about Olympus, I would like to know if
there have been any other cameras that have peaked your interest lately- are
any other camera companies giving Olympus strong competition?
* How do you feel about all of the technology that is available to us today-
friend or foe?
***************
So, they obviously do not ask for details like what gear I own, nor do they
seem to be overly interested in establishing other "typical" information a
potential spammer would want to know for more deliberately targeting me
(apart from my work address)...
They offered to send me a money order as means of payment. We'll see if it
works out or not, but at least I thought this one was worth a try, and hey,
at least it is a good excuse to rant some more about Olympus to someone ;)))
Cheers!
Olafo
PS: Will keep you guys posted on the progress...
