We might be using different types of enlarger lamps
which could be making a big difference. Also, I am
using Ilford Multigrade with filtration to adjust
contrast. Most of the Kodak B&W emulsions seem to
print at 1-2 stops faster than the T400CN.
I did tend to overexpose T400CN a bit because of
sharpness. My pictures were noticably sharper when
shot at ISO 200 than ISO 400, but the response curves
didn't help midtones much. My last rolls I shot at
320 with probably the best results.
The dark base of T400CN does make focusing in the
darkroom a bit harder too. I frequently ripped the
negs out of the holder and stuck some Ilford Pan-F or
Tri-x in for relief.
