This guy is way off base. My mother is American and I have many relatives
in the U.S. (I live in Canada). Because of my relatives, I have sent many
packages to the U.S. I have to put a mailing label for customs on the pack
with the value, etc. They ARE assessed duty if the item falls within a
specific duty tax code.

Subject: [OM] [OT] This should be a fun e*b*a*y transaction....
Hi folks,
Sorry, this is a bit off topic, albeit the auction concerns some OM gear,
but I just *had* to share this. I had sent the seller an email to provide my
address and receive the cost of shipping. In the auction, the seller stated
that he/she would ship internationally. Here is what I received as a
reply...
"BRUCE,
I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH 3 CANADIAN RESIDENTS WHILE SELLING ON EBAY. WE WILL
NOT PAY YOUR DUTY TAX FOR THE ITEM YOU BOUGHT FROM US!!!! FOR SOME REASON
CANADIANS THINK THAT I HAVE TO PAY THE DUTY TAX THAT YOUR COUNTRY CHARGES.
THIS MAIL IS TO LET YOU KNOW THAT WE WILL NOT PAY THAT !!!
I AM NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE WITH THIS LETTER. IT IS JUST THAT 3 PEOPLE THAT
I
HAVE DEALED WITH THAT HAVE BEEN FROM CANADA HAVE WANTED ME TO PAY THEIR DUTY
TAX ON THE ITEM THEY BOUGHT FROM ME. I TOLD ALL 3 OF THEM THAT IT IS NOT MY
PROBLEM THAT YOUR COUNTRY RIPS YOU OFF LIKE THAT. THE GREAT U.S.A. DOES NOT
CHARGE IT'S RESIDENTS DUTY TAX WHEN HAVING AN ITEM SHIPPED HERE. EMAIL ME TO
CONFIRM THIS EMAIL. "
This is going to be fun....
