http://www.llbean.com/parksearch/parks/map_html/15482gd.htm shows a state
outline map that will give you a good idea of where the refuge is. Note that
Corpus is NOT located at the red dot (Refuge) as it might appear--Corpus is at
the blue dot below and to the left of it's name. Actually, the refuge is very
near (and some of the non-public land of the refuge is on) Matagorda Island.
HOWEVER -- There is about a 50 mile drive difference from the Port O'Connor
(Matagorda Island) ferry docks to the Refuge located near Austwell. Try
mapquest for a better map.
This area provides a very rich photo op for wildlife. Just bring a loooong lens
if you hope to get some photos of the Whooping Cranes when they are wintering
down here. Unlike most of the rest of the animals at the refuge, these birds
tend to stay well away from areas where people are.

This is a great book that lists over 400 cities and towns, great for planning
photo trips.
